Performance, battery life and charge
Judging these phones always be difficult. A Pixel is always nice to use and these are no exception. However, there is a winner in terms of objective power, since the Pixel 3 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, which outperforms the Pixel 2 Snapdragon 835.
The capacity of the battery has increased constantly, with the Pixel 3a showing the best performance. Unlike the Pixel 3, the mid-range phone provides a good battery life for a whole day. The cargo is where the last flagship is fired: all three are characterized by fast loading, but only the Pixel 3 comes with the wireless Qi load.
While the performance of Pixel 3a vs. Pixel 3 vs. Pixel 2 is suitable, the most powerful processor and Qi wireless charging give Pixel 3 the victory.
Winner: Pixel 3
Design and durability
Google's designs for the Pixel range generate split opinions, even many rated them as ugly. Google took a long time to adopt the design trends of other manufacturers, so none is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S10 or the iPhone XS. The Pixel 2 is the worst due to its large bezels. Pixel 3 and 3a are the most attractive, with thinner bezels. The Pixel 3a is also the only one that includes a headphone jack.
Pixel 3a is made of polycarbonate, while Pixel 3 and Pixel 2 have more luxurious materials. The Pixel 3 is completely glass, while the Pixel 2 has an aluminum body with a glass panel. Of course, glass is fragile, so Pixel 2 aluminum and Pixel 3a polycarbonate are likely to be more durable. Still, a cover is recommended for all three. The Pixel 3 also has an advantage in waterproofing, thanks to an IP68 rating, slightly higher than the IP67 rating of Pixel 2. The Pixel 3a only has resistance to splashes and dust.
It is a difficult round, with many advantages for Pixel 3a vs.. Pixel 3 vs. Pixel 2. However, the most attractive design of Pixel 3 and strong waterproofing give it the victory.
Winner: Pixel 3
Google has made sacrifices to reduce the price of the Pixel 3a to mid-range levels, but the screen does not appear to be one. It has a 5.6-inch OLED screen with an aspect ratio of 18.5: 9 with a resolution of 2,280 x 1,080 pixels. It is slightly larger than the 5.5-inch Pixel 3, and considerably larger than the 5-inch Pixel 2. The larger size implies that it is not as sharp, but as it is OLED, it comes with a wide range of colors and blacks well defined.
Although the Pixel 3a gives a great fight, the Pixel 3 screen has a better resolution of 443 pixels per inch.
Winner: Pixel 3
The camera has always been one of the greatest strengths of the Pixel range. Each phone has the now iconic 12.2 megapixel main lens, with excellent portrait mode, AI optimization and tricks such as Night sight Y Top shot. Pixel 2 and 3 have an advantage thanks to the function Visual core, which increases processing times and overall performance. But it is important to consider that everyone offers a great experience.
The Pixel 3a and the Pixel 2 have a lens selfiesimilar to 8 megapixels, although the Pixel 3a has a fixed focus. The Pixel 3 has another advantage with a lens selfie additional. In addition, it has two 8 megapixel lenses, the second one with a wide angle to take pictures of large groups. This additional lens, combined with the Visual core, give the victory to Pixel 3.
Winner: Pixel 3
Software and updates
Since Pixel is the Google device, everyone has the latest version of Android 9.0 Pie. Google is exceptionally good at sending updates to your phones on a regular and timely basis. Since its launch, each team has three years of major Android updates and security updates. Therefore, the Pixel 2 will be the first to stop updating, you will definitely get Android 10 Q and you can even receive Android R in 2020.
There is no way to choose between Pixel 3a vs. Pixel 3 vs. Pixel 2, since all are exactly the same.
Google manages to keep older devices up to date on software, and since many special Pixel features are software based, older Pixels receive new features as they are released. Each phone is intricately linked to the Google Assistant. In addition, you will find Dplex, call on screen and much more.
But the newer phones advance a bit. The Pixel 3 has support for Google Pixel Stand, which turns your phone into a smart screen, while the Pixel 3a is the first to have compatibility with the new augmented reality mode of Google Maps.
Winner: Draw Pixel 3a and Pixel 3
Price and availability
Although Pixel 2 is no longer available on Google, you can still buy it on Amazon, with prices that are generally around $ 600 dollars. Function in the most important networks. The Pixel 3 is available from a variety of retailers and operators, including Sprint, US Cellular, Verizon and T-Mobile. While it is not available on AT&T, keep running on your networks. Prices start at $ 800 dollars. The Pixel 3a is a separate case, since it is a mid-range phone. It costs $ 400 dollars, half of the Pixel 3, but with its same availability.
In these types of comparisons, the newest device usually wins. However, due to the great abyss in the relative price, the Pixel 3 takes the victory. It is not so surprising, if you consider the Pixel 3 to be Google’s flagship device, and although Pixel 3a is newer, it’s aimed at a more budget-conscious segment and simply cannot match the power, luxurious and powerful design Pixel camera 3.
But the Pixel 3aest closer than you think. It resists extremely well its most powerful and expensive cousins. The Snapdragon 670 chip will surprise you with its capabilities, and its camera is similar to that of the Pixel 3. Where the Pixel 3a loses points is in construction materials, waterproofing and lack of Qi wireless charging. But it's $ 400 cheaper, and if you don't care about those sacrifices on behalf of an exceptional camera, solid performance and good battery life, then the Pixel 3a is your alternative.
However, if money is not a limit for you, your alternative should always be Pixel 3. It is a direct update to Pixel 2, and exceeds Pixel 3a.
