It is saturday morning at the headquarters of eBay / PayPal and the developers are busy preparing for the second day of development of iPad in the first official iPadDevCamp (offered by those who previously organized three iPhoneDevCamp events). The coffee is made and the muffins are served. The teams were formed last night but there are still a couple of people hanging around and comparing the skills of the participants to find the dream team to join. Of course there are iPads everywhere, in business card holders and in other random home-made gadgets.

The developers have flown from Argentina, China, Germany, Sweden, England and Canada. The goal is to meet people on Friday night and, by Sunday, have an imposing application. A hackatn. The best applications will receive various awards, from iPads, to keyboards and even cases.

In addition to being focused on this new and exciting platform for a few days, there are also talks about application commerce, PayPal integration, advertising location, Objective-C classes and other presentations by renowned figures of Silicon Valley.

The developers and their applications

I sat next to Dan Grover, the creator of ShoveBox, to comment on his latest project: Etude. It is an application of musical scores that is beautiful on the iPad (although currently only available for iPhone). Imagine supporting your iPad on your piano and playing the comps of clebre compositions. Below we have an example musical work.

I was also talking about Audiotorium with Michael Emmons, a former Symbian developer who has abandoned this platform for iPhone OS. Audiotorium is an application that allows both recording and taking notes, which is perfect for university students and professional workers. Instead of taking your laptop to a class or a meeting, which is a bit of an exaggeration, you use your iPad to make sure you don't miss any detail.

Musical creation

Well, this is very cool. Rana Sobhany uses two iPads as a mixer. He has a blog where he shares his experience and progress called Destroy the Silence.

The results

Here is a list with many of the applications that were presented on Sunday after two very hard nights. Somehow, these magicians have been able to create applications that work and that, apparently, are already ready to be sent to the App Store. Anyway, there are still many that are still in development in Github, or that are now open-source for anyone who wants to download and try them.

Relay This application will be really impressive when finished. The demo received a massive applause. Users can drag web pages, text and music from the iPad to the computer and vice versa. Music stops playing on one device and, perfectly, continues on the other. The pages you are currently visiting are instantly loaded on the other device. This application won the most useful prize

PAD Personal Armor Defense A portable security system. Users install wireless sensors (smoke, movement, etc.) in a hotel, camping or home room to ensure their protection. The system can be assembled and disassembled by RFID. PAD received the award to the Alarming Ms.

iPad Slot Machine Another recipient of huge applause. An iPhone simulates the slot machine lever and three iPads show the spinning objects. iPad Slot Machine received the award for the most cool application. You can see it in the image below.
