Microsoft's 'Office Online' is now just 'Office'

Microsoft offers some different versions of Office, the three main Office 2019, Office 365 and Office Online. However, the latest version is now eliminating the online bit and is simply becoming Office.

Why the change?

In a post on the Office Apps Blog, Bill Doll, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Office Apps Strategy, explains that since Office is now offered on a wide range of platforms, it makes little sense to use "Platform specific secondary brands".

With that in mind, Office Online removes the online sub-brand, like all applications under its umbrella, so Word Online, Excel Online, Powerpoint online, etc. they also fall "online."

Actually

Microsoft is simply missing a term for another and easily admits it.

We are used to listening to different versions called Office for Windows, Office for Mac or Office for iOS.

Now we will probably hear what was once called Office Online as Office for the web
