Air Nippon Airways (ANA) presents its virtual travel service with video call and telepresence systems that allows people to visit their families without having to go to an airport and get on a plane.
Newme will be a service that the Japanese airline ANA will begin offering in April 2020
The new system was evaluated by a couple from Oita Prefecture, Japan, with the Newme robot,
developed by Avatar In for the ANA company. In this way, the daughter was able to chat and tour the house and chat with her parents remotely through a video call available on the screen of a computer mounted on a stand equipped with wheels.
Newme is an avatar robot that allows realizing experiences remotely in real time, with the possibility of touring museums, shops or other particular destination. The operation of the system also allows to see, listen and talk with other people who are with the remote controlled robot.
With an autonomous of about three hours, Newme has a weight of about 15 kilos and a height of between a meter and a meter and a half. Equipped with a 10.1-inch touch screen, it can stream video in full HD and its design can be customized as per height and appearance. ANA plans to launch the service in April 2020 and plans to have available a first batch of 1000 robots that will be available in public spaces, stores and stadiums to remotely attend sporting events.
