Microsoft Defender has new protection against alterations

In the middle of the year Microsoft began testing a new function for its antivirus in Windows, the so-called "Tamper Protection" or Microsoft Defender tamper protection, a feature that protects the antivirus itself from alterations and that adds an extra layer of security for those who use the solution that comes by default with Windows 10.

They have now announced the general availability of this feature for their Microsoft Defender ATP family, so it should be included even for the antivirus version in macOS. The protection against alterations prevents malicious applications from changing important antivirus settings.

Making antivirus more secure than more than half of all Windows users use

Windows Defender

We recently learned that according to Microsoft's figures, more than 50% of all Wnidows users use the company's antivirus, that is, more than 500 million computers worldwide use Microsoft Defender.

This is the most important reason why antivirus has become the main target of attacks. The protection against alterations comes to deal with various types of malware that try to disable, for example, real-time protection or protection in the Windows Defender cloud.

It is also designed to prevent detection of suspicious files in IE downloads and Outlook attachments from being disabled, or that intelligent antivirus security updates that detect the latest threats are stopped.

Tamper Protection

If you are a Windows 10 Home user this function will be activated by default in the next few days If you want to activate it manually, you must open the Windows Security Settings and look for the "Anti-virus and threat protection" section.

There you will find the option and you can enable it in one click. With this active function, the Windows Defender antivirus service can no longer be deactivated either from group policies or from registration. You can only disable protection against alterations from the Security Settings if you are the administrator of the equipment.
