Several hours after we started testing the Oculus Quest, we were in a Jedi dojo with a lightsaber in our hands. More than simply holding the elegant weapon, we used its buzzing blade to go through training boots and deflect rays that shot at us. We played Immortal Vader, an adventure of Star wars for episodes launched alongside the new Facebook virtual reality team. The real world had been completely diluted while we experienced the coolest and most immersive technology that has ever lashed out at our senses.

IMMEDIATE MAGIC

We were already convinced before putting the chosen Jedi weapon in our gloved hands. The successor of the Oculus Rift and the Oculus Go is presented as something special since you take it out of the box. Even their tutorial and installation process provide a magical and transformative experience.

One of the first things to do is draw a virtual barrier, called the Guardin, around the perimeter of your designated game area. It's a safety precaution, but it makes you feel like a sorcerer casting a spell with his wand. Throwing paper airplanes, taking blocks and hitting ping pong balls during the first parts of the tutorial feels equally fantastic.

It is not even necessary to immerse yourself in the library of games and applications of the Quest to see what it is capable of. That not only speaks of the impressive technology, but the attention and care invested in making it accessible to the casual consumer. That immediate accessibility not only raises the standard; he throws it away, like a javelin, destroying the barriers that keep the general public at a distance.

Even their tutorial and installation process provide a magical and transformative experience.

For many, those barriers are a high-end gaming PC, a tedious installation or external cameras and sensors, and the tangle of cables that tie the best virtual reality experiences to a console or computer.

The ease of use of the Oculus Quest is its most important aspect. Getting started is simple: just load the viewfinder, install the batteries in the Touch controls and download the Oculus application on the phone. It is always refreshing to be minutes away from experiencing something that a few years ago would only have seemed possible in a science fiction movie.

THE BEST OF BOTH VIRTUAL WORLDS

Although the Quest scores many points by eliminating those obstacles, it also deserves credit for what it provides. Particularly, its Insight Tracking sensors and its Touch controls do a great deal to offer a unique immersion sensation. These elements basically contain the least of both worlds in the pair of previous Oculus viewers (the controls and the six degrees of freedom of the Rift and the wireless technology of the Go) by polishing and refining them in an all-in-one system.

Seeing your hands in those virtual worlds and enjoying those six degrees of freedom without worrying about tangled wires between your feet allows you to get lost in virtual worlds that you have never experienced. The comfortable viewfinder, the intuitive elements of the user interface and the integrated speakers are just the cherry in the deep immersion cake.

The sacrifice, of course, is that there are fewer specifications and processing power. Although the resolution by eye of the Quest leaves behind that of the original Rift, it uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, the same that is found in the bowels of many phones and Lenovo Mirage Solo. Without a brutal PC to power virtual reality fantasies, the graphic fidelity of some games is affected. Likewise, the lack of external sensors will sometimes cause the tracking to be lost, tearing you off for a moment from your virtual vacation.

Without a brutal PC to power virtual reality fantasies, the graphic fidelity of some games is affected.

That said, the sacrifice is worth it. The differences range from easy to ignore to difficult to see, and are greatly overcome by an experience that will keep you continuously picking your jaw off the ground. We don't care that the version of Creed: Rise to Glory Be less attractive when we have the ability to float like butterflies and sting like bees.

Creed: Rise to Glory It is only one of the 50 games / applications in which you can dive from the first day. The first users will have access to new titles, such as the one already mentioned Immortal Vader Y Dance Central VR, in addition to many previous favorites. Some of the existing options benefit greatly from the all-in-one freedom of the viewfinder. You never use wired equipment again for physically intensive games, such as Beat Know Y Superhot VR, after experiencing freedom with them in the Quest.

THE BEST RV TO WHICH YOU CAN ASPIRATE

It could be said that the Oculus Quest is the most impressive and immersive way to consume virtual reality entertainment. Our biggest complaint is that they recommend cleaning the lenses with a microfiber cloth, but they don't include it. That must say it all.

If you are just going to enter the world of virtual reality, or if you have only tried it in a friend's house, tied to a PC or PlayStation, a real treat awaits you. And best of all, you don't have to be fond of games or technology to enjoy the Quest. With its ease of use and its price, comparable to that of a low-end laptop or smart phone, it is a virtual reality equipment for absolutely everyone.

PRICE, AVAILABILITY AND WARRANTY INFORMATION

The Oculus Quest is available on Oculus.com, in addition to Amazon and BestBuy, for $ 399 dollars (64GB) and $ 499 (128GB). It includes a limited warranty for one year; if you acquire it in the European Union you will get two years.

The Oculus Quest offers a magical experience from the moment you take it out of the box, combining an incredibly simple installation process with a sample of the virtual wonders that lie ahead. Together with its wireless technology, its six degrees of freedom and its Touch controls, this accessibility feeds a surprisingly immersive and intuitive experience that can be enjoyed by many. With a comfortable viewfinder, an acceptable price and a solid list of games and applications, the Quest is the best option so far for virtual reality to reach the general public.
