It's only been two weeks since the launch of the iPhone 11, but rumors about the iPhone next year are here. It's good news for Apple iPhone 4 fans and its elegant metal frame.
The reliable Apple analyst
Ming-Chi Kuo (through MacRumors) states that next year's iPhone will have a significantly different design than current models. More precisely, it will have a metal frame with a “Similar design” to iPhone 4.
The current crop of iPhones also has a metal frame, but it is rounded, while the iPhone 4 frame was flat. If true, the iPhone 2020 would also be more similar to the current generation of iPad Pro, which also has a flat metal frame.
Notably, Kuo states that the glass on the iPhone next year will still have curved edges, just like the iPhone 11.
The 3.5-inch screen with massive bezels seems dated now, the iPhone 4 was a marvel of design in its day and a radical deviation from its predecessor, the iPhone 3GS.
The iPhone 3GS had a rounded plastic back, while the iPhone 4 had an almost identical glass panel at the front and back, with the stainless steel frame in the middle bending like the phone's antenna.
Kuo also states that the iPhones 2020 will have 5G support, and previously said the line will consist of three OLED models, with Pro variants with 5.4 and 6.7-inch screens, and the successor of the iPhone 11 with a 6.1-inch screen
