Do you have an old photo of your grandparents? Or a year ago you put that photo that you like so much in black and white and now it doesn't seem like such a good idea? Well, Google has come to put a solution with Google Photos and its new option.Colorize
Color your old or black and white photos
Colorize (or Color), is the new feature of Google Photos. This option, through Artificial Intelligence, identifies the scene of the photo and interprets the colors to color it automatically. This option is still in the beta phase and some users have already tried it, and this is how it works.
So far they have withdrawn the option of some beta testers, so for now it can not be tested. But those who have tried it have told us how it works. When clicking on the option to color (which was already indicated that it was a beta function) we will see a notice that explains how this new implementation works. The description is easy:The color mode analyzes black and white photos and adds color.
By accepting the process of coloring begins, take a little, but we will not have to wait long. At the end we will see the photo in color. The results are quite good, but we can finish modifying the photo with us, either in Google Photos or in other editing apps after saving it.
Although the results are quite good, it is true that it has a somewhat vintage effect that sins a bit of orange in some cases. And sometimes it seems more like an orange sepia effect than a colorization to use. Something that sometimes alters the naturalness of skin tones a little. But in other photos it does surprisingly well. We assume that this option will gradually improve, not only with the final release of the stable version of the function, but also the updates that will be received over time.
We look forward to receiving this option globally on our phones and testing it further. Do you think it is an app that you will end up using to "revive" your old photos? Or what will remain in a simple story? Leave your opinion in the comments!
