Surface Laptop 3: with USB-C

Microsoft has just announced the third generation of its classic laptops within the Surface range, the Surface Laptop 3.

Unlike

The Surface and Surface Pro, these have a classic keyboard to which the screen is anchored to form a laptop with a much more conventional appearance, although they continue to maintain the maximum of the range of trying to offer the most powerful hardware possible to have the best Windows experience.

This third generation stands out for several things

Such as betting on a 15-inch version in addition to the classic 13.5-inch version.

Microsoft has also decided to bet on AMD processors to the detriment of the Intel in its larger version, although it keeps Intel processors in the smaller version, and finally incorporates a USB Type-C that was missed so much in previous versions.

The versions of both sizes are practically identical

Having even the same size of keys, but differing mainly in the space between keyboard and trackpad.

Aesthetically there are no major changes compared to previous generations, but in addition to the USB-C, the device also has a 3.5 mm jack and a more conventional Type A USB that also remains necessary to connect external storage devices .

One of the main features

The Surface range has always been its design, and this is something that Panos Panay has placed a lot of emphasis on during the presentation of this new generation.

Microsoft has left behind the Alcantara finish of the keyboard in the previous generation to bet on a complete aluminum finish that gives them a more premium look. Even so, they are optional changes and you can choose the finish when you buy it. Its keyboard has keys with a travel of 1.3 millimeters to offer a pleasant touch.

Trackpad

It has grown by 20% compared to the model of the previous year, and the mini-DisplayPort has replaced an expected USB Type-C. It also highlights its modular design, which allows to open the device make it easier to repair and easily change The hard drive for another.

Something that goes very much in the trend of "reparability" and durability, a movement that now in the European Union are taking more seriously.

The Surface count

With fast charging capable of reaching 80% of the load in less than an hour, and they get with the classic proprietary adapter from Microsoft in its range. All this for a battery that they promise will be able to last 11.5 hours, although as always, it will have to be tested in our analysis to be able to see what the real figures are.

The Surface Laptop 3

It will come with two different sizes. On the one hand there will be the 13.5-inch version, which will have a resolution of 2256 × 1504 pixels and a density of 201 dpi.

Then there is the new 15-inch variant, with 2496 × 1664 pixels PixelSense display, and a density that is also 201 pixels per inch. The older brother has a weight of 1,542 kg, while the small one will remain at 1,26552 kg.

The specifications

The devices can reach 16 and 32 GB of DDR4 RAM in the 13.5 and 15-inch versions respectively. The smaller version also integrates tenth-generation Intel quad-core processors, with which Microsoft promises twice the speed of the Surface Laptop 2, and three times that of the MacBook Air.

The great internal change

We see it in the 15-inch version, where you will have the option of having an AMD Ryzen “Surface Edition” processor, which Microsoft says are the fastest mobile processors manufactured by AMD.

These processors were born from the collaboration between Microsoft and AMD, and ensure that they have the fastest graphic performance of any laptop in their category. Again, you will have to try it in the first person to check it.

In both models

We are going to find SSD storage that can reach 1 TB of space.

Remember that in this case they are removable hard drives that you can change whenever you want.

As for the ports, in addition to the aforementioned Type C USB we will also find a full-size Type A USB, and a 1.5 mm jack.
