Google confirms the end of the Allo messaging platform

While Google has denied these statements and tried to clear up any confusion, it was not long before another rumor appeared, this time in reference to its Allo chat application.

New reports and sources close to the matter said that the technology giant closed "soon" Allo. As in the case of Hangouts, the rumors were quickly followed by more clarifications from the technology giant, but this time, Google confirmed that, effectively, withdraw Allo in 2019.

Allo's closing shouldn't come as a big surprise. As Google mentions, the main features of that platform have been directed to the application of Messages and the closure of Allo allows Google to focus on improving its messages. The company has confirmed that Allo continue working only until March 2019, and has also provided instructions on how to make a backup of your chats, so you can take everything with you when Allo ceases to exist.

The Allo platform was originally launched two years ago, both for Android phones and for iOS, as the company's sixth messenger application. To use Allo, you simply had to log in with your phone number and synchronize your Google account, which allows you to use the Google Assistant within the message window while talking with friends or family.

However, Allo has not only had problems with the functionality, but Allo's team has been sent to work on Android Messages instead of continuing to develop the functionality of the platform. This makes sense, since the company has been putting great emphasis on its efforts with the Rich Communication Services protocol, also known as RCS, which is intended to replace the classic SMS (Short Message Service) messages.

Last year, the company announced that it was working with major global companies to adopt RCS in the form of Chat. As with iMessage, users can receive read receipts and also see when a message is delivered in real time. They can also send audio and video messages, start group chats and send high resolution images.

Also, reference was made to Chats when Google tried to clarify doubts about Hangouts. A spokesman for the company confirmed that, although Hangouts will not be completely eliminated in the future, it will suffer a migration to Chat and Meet services, although a specific date has not yet been established. However, Google says it is "fully committed to supporting users of classic Hangouts, until everyone has successfully migrated to Chat and Google Meet."

Since Google has been providing new features to other messaging applications, many customers have already moved away from Google Hangouts, but there are still some loyal fans who prefer to keep the service. However, it is safe to say that, if you have not yet made the transition to another platform, you will want to do so sometime in 2019.
