Folding smart phones may be making headlines, even though they still do not reach the market. However, folding cameras are for sale. Insta360 revealed to the world the EVO, a 180 degree 3D camera that is in turn a 360 degree camera that allows users to switch between both modes in a very simple way: folding the device in half. The company also launched the HoloFrame, a frame that is located on the front of a smart phone and allows viewing 3D content without special glasses.
When the Insta360 EVO is fully deployed, the camera records 3D video at 180 degrees and 5.7K, while the photos taken with the two lenses are 18 megapixels, 3D and 180 degrees. However, when you fold the camera in half, you see that the lenses are going to turn their backs, and even if your 3D capability is lost, you will get a 360 degree video. The same sensors and lenses capture both videos, so the resolution remains unchanged when the 360-degree view is obtained, although it must be borne in mind that these pixels are distributed in double space.
The EVO Insta360 also uses FlowState, a type of 6-axis gyro stabilization. The camera is equipped with two lenses with aperture f / 2.2. In addition to the usual formats, such as JPEG and MP4, the camera can also record DNG RAW and LOG video files.
The EVO incorporates time-lapse video modes (known as timelapse), as well as an HDR mode to capture high-contrast scenes. For photographs, the camera has automatic and manual modes.
With one application, the EVO can send the JPEG or MP4 file wirelessly to a smart device. The application includes editing tools before publishing on platforms, including YouTube and Facebook.
The company says the camera images are also compatible with any virtual reality device (including HTC Live Focus later this month). But if you are a user who does not have such devices, the company launches the Insta360 HoloFrame. The frame is located on the front of a smart phone, like a phone case upside down. The case itself allows 3D visualization without the lenses, while the EVO application can even track eye movement for more realistic results.
The folding camera will be available as of today at insta360.com, B&H Photo Video and other retailers, with an approximate price of $ 420 dollars. The HoloFrame is also available today and has a cost of $ 30 dollars, although its sizes are made for the iPhone X, XS, XS Max and XR. The company also plans to launch future HoloFrames for Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 +, S9, S9 + and Note 8 smartphones.
