Creator of glasses AR / VR Magic Leap partners with AT&T

magic leap ar vrAugmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) continue to infiltrate more and more spaces, and to broaden its scope even more, the creator of lenses for AR / VR Magic Leap is partnering with AT&T to enter the mobile market.

An interview earlier this year with Rony Abovitz, CEO of Magic Leap, revealed that the company had been looking for an important partner to introduce the revolutionary AR / VR technology to the public, and that interview has now come to life. AT&T confirmed the news on July 11, and clarified that it will be the exclusive service company of the Magic Leap Creator glasses. He also announced that the headphones will be available in stores for customers to try, in cities such as Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. More markets will follow at a later date.

The company's Magic Leap One (ML1) has been on the horizon for a while, and is touted as a breakthrough in the quality of VR / AR headsets. As expected, the internal operation of these devices is very complex, since it uses light to digitally paint objects directly in your view. While that may sound awkward, Magic Leap has claimed that the process will not tire users' eyes, and is much more compelling than competing products.

However, while the ML1 can be portable thanks to the small Lightpack base station, it is designed primarily for indoor use, and is not a product that stops an attractive design. It is also quite large and bulky, despite being much thinner than the competition. So, while the ML1 may be the first device that gives us truly compelling virtual alternative realities, it is unlikely to be the product that brings the outdoor experience.

But Magic Leap seems to be planning ahead. According to the interview, the company has plans beyond its first headset, and is already analyzing a range of devices, including one aimed at the mass market that will have a price around the current cost of a flagship phone, which means that it will probably cost between $ 600 to $ 900 dollars.

While that device is not the one that Magic Leap is associating to initially create with AT&T, it is not difficult to imagine that a smaller headset will be in the future if the ML1 succeeds. In addition, a partnership with AT&T also help with the marketing of the device, putting technology in the hands of as many people as possible.
