The best LED spotlights to illuminate your home and your life

The LED spotlights of today are a brilliant idea. Manufacturers design LED bulbs capable of lasting decades, and are now more affordable and popular than ever. Thanks to new efficiency standards, traditional incandescent bulbs have gradually disappeared to give way to more efficient and ecological alternatives. Buying a cheap light bulb that lasts 20 years seems like a good idea, but what do you need to know about them? What is the best for your home? Some last 30 years or emit a better quality light than a 60-watt incandescent, while others are dimmed through an application. Some emit a range of colored lights and others need a smart home center to connect to the rest of your home. When purchasing your lights, there are several factors that you should take into account. To help you with your decision we have created this selection of the best LED spotlights.

Cree 60W Equivalent Soft White

The best LED spotlights

In recent years, Cree has established itself as one of the world's leading spotlight manufacturers, creating affordable and effective solutions to replace those incandescent energy-consuming light bulbs. Especially its Soft White focus equivalent to 60 watts offers an incredible combination of longevity, brightness and good price that no other can match.

Capable of emitting 815 lumens consuming only 10 watts of energy, this efficient type A19 bulb (which offers 25,000 hours of use) works with any dimmer, so you will not experience an annoying buzzing or errors when adjusting brightness. It has a warranty for 10 years and is incredibly economical. It comes in packages of four, six or eight.

The 5,000k daylight version emits a more blue and blue light, while the 2,700k Soft White is more warm and yellow. I recently created a renewal of its line of spotlights to improve its color rendering index; These bulbs have an 85+ on a scale of 0 to 100, which means that they will more adequately show the true colors of an object than a focus with a lower index.

The Lifx A19 LED Light is an LED spotlight that changes color and is also smart; It is too convenient to ignore. The focus, which fits on E26 / E27 sockets, emits an impressive 75 lmens per watt. It provides saturated and intense colors, and the application for Android, iOS and Windows 10 allows you to choose from more than 16 million colors.

This is one of the few smart lights capable of operating independently of your smart home ecosystem (hub), as it has built-in Wi-Fi. It can also be integrated with Nest, SmartThings, Google Home and Alexa to control it with the voice. The application also offers many functions such as the option to group bulbs and change their settings simultaneously. This focus lasts approximately 22 years, although it will probably last less if you constantly manipulate the settings.

In 2015, General Electric launched the C package, a set of two C-Life LED bulbs and two C-Sleep compatible with Bluetooth and capable of operating independently of a smart home hub or ecosystem. The lights are controlled through an application for iOS or Android. The Life produces up to 800 light lasses with a fixed color temperature of 2,700k. The application allows you to group the spotlights and control their brightness.

Sleep bulbs produce up to 850 lmens and are a bit more customizable. Each focus (or group of spotlights) can be programmed with different settings for morning, afternoon and night, so you can fall asleep under a soft 2,000k light and wake up with a bright 7,000k light. The options available through the application are somewhat limited in terms of the functionality of the smart lights, but the clarity and brightness are top notch. It is also not common to run into intelligent LEDs that do not require connection to a hub.

Eufy Lumos Smart Bulb

We recently had the opportunity to experiment with the 9 watt Eufy Lumos Smart Bulb bulb. This model is not only a good low cost option, but it is also one of the best LEDs we have tested. Like the other Eufy smart home products, the Lumos Smart Bulb requires a brief configuration process to connect it to the EufyHome application. After synchronizing it, you can easily adjust the brightness from your phone or tablet and even schedule weekly lighting schedules. This is a useful safety function when you go on vacation.

The unit also pairs with Alexa and Google Assistant to add a voice activation option, if you wish. Thus, you can simply ask your digital assistant to dim the light or turn it off completely at the end of the night because, let's admit it, turning on the light by hand is a thing of the last century. The Lumos Smart Bulb reaches a brightness of up to 800 lmenes.

Philips Hue Smart Bridge

Having a smart home is more fashionable than ever, an obvious thing to see the infinity of available hubs. Assuming you don't worry that your home becomes self-aware, you might want to invest in a smart home hub to control your security, your thermostat and (of course) your lighting. Several hubs in the market are interconnected with smart LED bulbs, but the Philips Hue family is the best smart ecosystem for those seeking total control.

The base model fits into an E26 input, emits 800 light bulbs and consumes just 9.5 watts. The white LED spotlight boasts 25,000 hours of use and includes an attenuation function when combined with the Philips Hue dimmer. The Hue Kit includes the Hue bridge in addition to two standard white Hue LED bulbs for $ 70 dollars, but the real reason we recommend the Hue family over all others are the many Philips products that are seamlessly interconnected. From reflectors to light strips, the bridge connects with up to 50 Hue lights and is controlled through an Android or iOS application. They are not the cheapest LED products on the market, but the ease of access, together with the ability to control all the lighting in your home at the same time, makes this our first choice when talking about intelligent LED ecosystems.
