It can be said with certainty that The Matrix (1999) has been one of the science fiction films that have given more talk. The idea that we live in a digital simulation seemed far away, but today it doesn't seem so far-fetched.
Recently, we learned that The Matrix 4 continue with the saga that started as a triloga, whose outcome we think we have seen with The Matrix Revolutions, released in 2003.
Although many may think that launching a new story is a perfect idea, given the advances made in terms of artificial intelligence, I appeal to Hollywood to have a little more imagination. The recycling of universes that has reached sagas as Star wars Y Harry Potter It works, but only as long as the stories make sense.
Reviving films is a formula that has become a trend that is already getting tired. Beauty and the Beast, King Len, Dumbo, AladdinY The Jungle Book are some examples. And none has been a true contribution to the seventh art. We want new stories.
The first The Matrix was so popular that it became a cult film and immortalize its co-stars, actors Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), who will join the cast of this fourth installment. However, the second and third films declined in level, so the negative critics took the name of the saga forever.
I doubt that a fourth installment will clear your name. Without knowing any detail of the plot that we will see in the next film, I cannot find a good reason to resurrect history. As in Star wars, the universe created by the Wachowski sisters admits further exploration and undoubtedly generates interest, but it may be better to leave mysteries unsolved instead of inventing lazy stories like the ones we usually witness in the aftermath. This film could only be the best or the worst thing that could happen to the franchise.
Personally, I really enjoy science fiction productions, but I doubt that The Matrix 4 (We still do not know his final name) will be the movie of the year or continent arousing as much emotion as the first, since the story was not strong enough in the aftermath. Of course, the special effects have advanced a lot and, surely, to be an entertaining visual spectacle in which the acrobatics of Neo will return in their maximum splendor.
