Camera stabilizers, which appeared on the market a few years ago and were popularized by DJI products, have become clearly more democratic. FeiyuTech, one of the leaders in the sector, offers in its catalog a 3-axis stabilizer for a very competitive price. But is it really worth it? We have been testing the device for the past few weeks, and here we tell you what we thought.
Less than 100 euros
As usual, we start with the price of the device, which in this case has turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Unlike some models that easily exceed 200 300 euros, the Vimble 2 is available for 89.99 euros. An ideal price for those looking for a product that is easy to use and transport to stabilize their videos. The colors available are four: black, pink, gray and white.
Feiyutech Vimble 2 – Design and finish
If you like to film and make videos, surely you have already been interested in the world of stabilizers. For those who still do not know what it is, it is simply a stabilized mechanism, also called "cardinal suspension", which aims to soften the movements and tremors generated during filming.
As most of the devices on the market, the Vimble 2 has a
classic design for this
kind of product. Made of composite materials, it has the particularity of offering up to 18 cm in scope. Compared to the first generation, this is the most important novelty. In this way, it is much easier to film from above or from a wider angle.
Feiyu also offers a tripod that you can screw under the stabilizer, and that will serve as a support for your videos. Something very useful if you wanted to film a live performance, for example. The trpode is included directly in the box. If you want to use another trpode, the change is as simple as possible, because the screw used is standard.
In the handle there is a control (the first button in the photo below) that moves in all directions and allows fluid movements with the phone. Depending on the degree of force with which it moves, the movement may or may not accelerate. Below, there is a power button and then another button to take photos or capture videos (long press). An LED above the motion control allows you to determine the mode in which you are.
On the front panel, you will find the shutter, which works together with the Vicool application on the smartphone: a short click to see an image, press and hold to watch the video. The LED above the motion control indicates what mode it is in, and on the back, in addition to the plug to recharge the unit, a small trigger has been placed to quickly change from horizontal to vertical mode, recalibrate the cardn or completely lock the unit so that it does not move. Finally, there is a microUSB connector on the side and a button for zoom and adjustments (white balance, different modes, etc.).
Finally, to fix your smartphone, simply open the spring holder, place the device and release. All sizes of smart phones seem to fit, even the biggest ones, like the OnePlus 7 Pro.
In general, the Vimble 2 is a pleasant stabilizer to handle due to its weight (420 grams without the phone) and its compact size.
Feiyutech Vimble 2 – Software
It is not necessary to use the VICOOL application developed by the manufacturer to use the Vimble 2, but it is convenient because it offers more interesting features such as tracking objects or people. Communicating with Bluetooth with your smartphone, the application is compatible with Android and iOS.
There are also many options available to adjust the engine speed and achieve the best effects for the videos. By default, it found the configuration
pretty good but it's good
have access to other options to adjust the camera and stabilizer.
Feiyutech Vimble 2 – Battery
promises a 5-hour autonomy in theory. A normal number in the category. In practice, the promises are fulfilled, unless the joystick is used a lot or the smartphone is recharged using the card's second microUSB port.
Recharging is also done quite quickly through the supplied charging cable. The autonomy is about 2 hours. It is even possible to use the device while it is charging. Unfortunately, the battery is not removable.
For less than 100 euros, the Feiyu Vimble 2 is an excellent stabilizer that allows you to enjoy the most important functions without breaking the bank. If you like to use your smartphone to make videos, this device will adapt perfectly to your needs.
