With only 990 grams (2.18 pounds), the Taiwanese company Acer presented at the IFA 2019 technology fair, the renewed models of its popular Swift line, which boasts the lightest 14-inch notebook in the world. According to the firm, they are not only ultralight, but also the Acer Swift 5 and Swift 3 offer an elegant design and chassis, slim bezels, excellent performance and good battery life.
"With the new Swift 5, we have integrated a dedicated graphics chip and the latest processors so that professionals no longer have to compromise portability and performance," said James Lin, general manager of Notebooks and Business Products at Acer.
Acer Swift 5
Since its launch, the 14-inch Acer Swift 5 is known to be the lightest laptop in its class. The last generation weighs only 990 grams (2.18 pounds with the new option of discrete graphics cards Nvidia GeForce MX250, or even less if you choose the Intel Iris Pro integrated graphics alternative, recently updated.
In addition, it has a chassis made of a combination of magnesium-lithium and magnesium-aluminum alloys that is only 14.95 mm thick (0.5 inches). The IPS3 Full HD touch screen has a narrow bezel, which delivers a body / screen ratio of 86.4 percent.
It's true: it's a lightweight team, but how powerful is it? The new Acer Swift 5 line is equipped with a tenth generation Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor and a 512GB SSD hard drive with maximum storage.
In terms of connectivity, the Swift 5 has a USB 3.1 connector, which supports all Thunderbolt functions, and the Intel dual band Wi-Fi 6 system. In addition, you can log in easily and securely through Windows Hello, just by touching the fingerprint reader.
According to the manufacturer, the autonomy of the battery of the equipment is 12.5 hours with a full charge. But if you run out of energy, it is also compatible with the fast charging system, giving you up to 4.5 hours of additional use with only 30 minutes of refueling.
Acer Swift 3
With a 14-inch IPS3 Full HD display and a 84 percent screen / body ratio, the Acer Swift 3 laptop weighs only 1.19 kilos (2.62 pounds) and has a chassis of only 15.95 mm (0.62 inches).
It is a computer suitable for both work and games, as it has a tenth generation Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor, Intel Iris Plus graphics and a discrete Nvidia GeForce MX250 GPU, which is optional. It also includes up to 512 GB of SSD storage, 16 GB of RAM, a Thunderbolt port and Intel dual-band Wi-Fi 6.
As for its autonomy, it offers up to 12.5 hours of battery life and also has a fast charging capacity: with only 30 minutes you will have four hours of use in video playback conditions.
The Acer Swift 5 and Swift 3 laptops will be available in Europe, the Middle East and Africa in September starting at 899 euros and 599 euros, respectively, while North America will arrive next November with values of $ 899 dollars and $ 699 dollars.
