ZTE Axon 10 Pro – Availability and price
The ZTE Axon 10 Pro is already available from several online distributors at the manufacturer's recommended retail price of 599 euros. This makes the smartphone significantly cheaper than the competition of Samsung, Huawei and company and is more likely to play in a league with OnePlus or Honor. Only available in blue.
A mirror that gets dirty quickly
As for the materials, ZTE relies on the
combination of glass and metal frames
. The front glass is curved only on both left and right sides, while the rear glass is on all four sides. The build quality is excellent and the union between the two materials is even better than that of the Samsung Galaxy S10.
This makes the Axon 10 Pro a fingerprint magnet, but it is also quite slippery, so I had to use the transparent cover that came with my smartphone. In this way, you can also solve the second problem: the back, which is very reminiscent of the Huawei P20 Pro, reflects so much that it can be used as a mirror, and in just a few seconds it is filled with dirt and fingerprints.
Two of the triple rear camera sensors are housed in a module with a slightly protruding edge that protects them from scratches and bumps.
The power button and volume control are located on the right side and offer a sharp pressure point and a short press of the keys, which promotes accidental pressure. The USB port and speaker grill are perfectly located. In short, the Axon 10 Pro is a very attractive smartphone.
Beautiful display with sharp colors
6.47 inch AMOLED display
in 19.5: 9 format with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels (FHD +) occupies about 88 percent of the front. In the upper part it is possible to find the same drop-shaped notch of the Hauwei P30, so discreet that it is difficult to notice.
The typical OLED screen convinces with its sharp colors, good contrasts and deep black tones. The color temperature is rather bluish, but it can also be adapted to your own preferences.
Among other functions, we find compatibility with HDR10 content and an Always on Display screen thanks to which it is also possible to see incoming notifications.
The Axon 10 Pro sometimes makes unlocking difficult
Like many other smartphones today, Axon 10 Pro offers two unlock options.
One is the optical fingerprint sensor built into the screen, the other is facial recognition through the front camera. The face unlock is so fast that after pressing the power button, the home screen appears immediately.
However, this method is absolutely uncertain in terms of security due to 2D type technology. The theory is supported by the "scan" that lasts only 1 second. This system can also be used at night, as the screen increases the brightness to the maximum.
Unfortunately, the fingerprint sensor causes problems. I had to press at least twice, before I recognized my fingerprint. If the fingers are a little wet, greasy or dirty, the sensor will not work
Sometimes the only option left is to use a PIN, as in the old days.
As for the software, ZTE forgot to solve some defects, as we have already noticed in the previous generation. It uses Android 9 Pie, on which ZTE places its own MiFavor 9.1 user interface. However, this inferfaz doesn't offer many changes, except the notification area and a custom launcher.
Other additional functions implemented by ZTE include gesture options such as shaking the smartphone to activate the flashlight, lifting to activate the screen or silencing. Pre-installed applications are limited but useful, such as the file manager, private space or a voice recorder. In addition, most of them can also be deactivated.
On the other hand,
in some aspects the software creates some problems
. For example, when you play music through Spotify, you only receive notifications of the running application, without the ability to control music playback.
Even translations of some functions leave much to be desired. Some are even incomprehensible. Even gesture navigation does not seem to be the best. The backward button on the side often interferes with the menu of the different Android applications.
When it comes to
performance, the Axon 10 Pro has nothing to envy the competition
, Since it is on the same level as the most expensive smartphones. This can be seen both in benchmarks and in daily use. Everything works without problems, applications open quickly, multitasking works without problems and at no time the smartphone allows perceptible breaks for calculation.
This is due to Snapdragon 855, Qualcomm's current high-end chip, the ZTE in the 6 GB variant of RAM and 128 GB of memory tested by us, which can be expanded using a microSD card (up to 1 TByte). Versions with 8 or even 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of memory are not available in this country.

Impeccable stereo sound
If we talk about sound, ZTE wants to convince with the Axon 10 Pro with stereo speakers and support for DTS: X Ultra
. To do this, use a combination of a speaker in the headset and a speaker pointing down.
In general, the sound is quite loud, but when it rises to the maximum it becomes metallic and shows a lack of bass. In addition, there is no audio jack, but ZTE includes a USB-C adapter inside the package.
A camera that needs better software
The camera is now one of the most important criteria when buying a smartphone and ZTE has it.
On the back there is a triple camera with wide angle, ultra wide angle and 3x optical zoom with the following features:
- 48 megapixels – Wide angle, aperture f / 1.7, OIS
- 20 Megapixels – Ultra wide angle (125), f / 2.2 F-stop
- 8 Megapixels – telephoto, 3x optical zoom, f / 2.4 aperture
During the day, the combination of Axon 10 Pro offers good shots with many details and very saturated colors in the test. Unfortunately, the camera tends to burn the brightest areas when shooting at maximum resolution. Consequently, as the difference in comparison with the 12 MP is barely visible, we recommend this last adjustment, which makes it possible to use the HDR mode. The contrast and sharpness of the corner angles are also relatively high.
In low light conditions, the quality decreases accordingly. The night mode is only useful if it filters a little light, but in the end it does not produce any visible improvement and, in addition, it takes much longer during processing. The pixel binning to get more light output, but it always depends on the scene you take.
The front camera shoots images with 20 megapixels, which are sharp and also colorful. However, ZTE must improve its portrait mode, which has some problems to properly separate the subject from the foreground in the background.
Versatile camera application
Otherwise, the options in the camera application are multiple. Here you have the possibility of taking slow-motion shots, panoramic, a manual mode and, of course, it has different filters and a beauty mode. I would have liked to see more options in the ltime lapse mode, which unfortunately cannot be adjusted enough.
Up to two days of autonomy
As for the battery life, with the Axon 10 Pro there is nothing to complain about. The 4000 mAh module allows you to take advantage of the smartphone all day without any problem, even with intensive use. Using this smartphone with moderation, you can easily get
two days of autonomy.
During the trial period I had the active screen between 8 and 9 hours, with a mixed use of music and streaming movies, browsing social networks and the Internet. Charging is done through the USB-C port located at the bottom. It reaches 50 percent in half an hour, while the full charge takes an hour and a half. Wireless charging is also compatible, but of course it takes much longer.

Defects that can be fixed with software updates
ZTE Axon 10 Pro is undoubtedly a high-end smartphone. Under the cap, it has a lot of power, both in daily use and in long game sessions. Thanks to the wireless charging, IP68 waterproofing and stereo speakers, all the features expected of a high-end smartphone are available.
The camera provides good photographs during the day and does not cause any night disaster. In addition, it is always possible to make improvements to the software, since the integrated hardware is already very valid. Unfortunately, ZTE has made some mistakes with a weak sound and an unreliable fingerprint sensor and software
Fortunately, this last problem can be solved with updates, so considering its price, this Axon 10 Pro is a good purchase option
