What if the Samsung Galaxy Fold, what if the Huawei Mate X The war to launch (we hope it is definitely) the first smartphone with flexible and foldable screen to the market has begun and everything suggests that little by little the big manufacturers will go to this train. You know, renew or die, right?
Well, at the moment and in the short term, LG is not at that point nor does it consider that this is one of the battles that it must fight. He also confirms it to us Digital Trends in Spanish Helena Devantares, marketing mnager of LG smartphones, in an interview granted during IFA 2019.
LG has presented its new LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen as part of this technology fair, which will arrive in Spain at the end of 2019 with a price below 1,000 euros. And, taking advantage of this meeting, Devantares has advanced the LG strategy for 2020 and 2021 a bit.
Our strategic vision is that the Dual Secreen or double screen be incorporated these years into the new family of devices due to its usability. It is LG's response to multitasking and multiscreen, he says.
For LG the main benefit of its Dual Screen is that it can be removed and placed according to the moment and the decision of the user, contrary to what happens with the flexible and extended screens that are launching other brands.
Of course, Devantares is aware that, yet, the Dual Screen has a considerable thickness (something that has already been reduced in this second generation compared to that launched with the V50) and also increases the weight of the phone. We will innovate until the second screen is as thin as possible, details about it.
But at the same time, he insists that it is still a great option for users. We bet on the double screen or Dual Screen because it is something that the user can already have today. What we want is to bring innovation that suits people by improving their life with the latest technology, that is, innovating with meaning, and we will maintain this line over time, clarifies Devantares.
Therefore, the last LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen comes with night mode, a video mode with improved quality, updated to Android 10 to offer all its advantages to users and, although it does not have a telephoto lens, the company has focused, to counteract, to give a great resolution of 32MP in the selfie camera and improve the photographic mode of the phone to offer more quality.
Because, as Devantares confesses, after sinning a little in the past of wanting to innovate in forced marches, the company's focus now is to offer a real and practical technology. However, remember that LG is number one in OLED, so we can make a folding screen, but we will not launch a technology that is not already tested that really works. Let's go without hurry, but without pause, he explains.
And, on the other hand, as for the 5G technology – not yet widespread – and since LG has already launched a compatible phone with this fast network, the LG V50, Devantares explains that the company will continue betting on the 5G network and that the Next year, releases with 4G and 5G with dual screen or Dual Screen are planned.
That is the short-term roadmap of the South Korean firm.
