There are thousands of different reasons why you want to play videos that you have saved on your computer or laptop to your TV. In this article we will teach you how to do it using two very popular products: VLC and Chromecast.
Logically, you will need to have Google Chromecast and of a television compatible with this device. You should also have the latest version of the VLC free media player.
On the other hand, you should keep in mind that both the Chromecast and the computer from which you play the video must be connected to the same network. One can be connected via Wi-Fi and the other with an Ethernet cable.
How to watch videos on Chromecast with the VLC player
First, open the VLC program and click on the Playback tab of the top toolbar. From the drop-down menu, select Processor and the search for compatible devices connected to the network will start.
When the Chromecast option appears, click on it. Then, open the video you want to play on your television. Before it starts playing, you may see an alert. You must accept to watch the video on TV.
If you have already made sure that your TV is turned on and that you have selected the HDMI input corresponding to your Chromecast, you should already be able to watch the video from your TV screen.
It is certainly not the most ideal way to watch movies, series and other videos on your TV, since the playback buttons can only be controlled from the VLC program installed on your computer.
You may find it more comfortable to play videos in VLC from the app that you can install on your smartphone or tablet. Thus, you can conveniently use your mobile phone or tablet as a remote control.
What is the best way to play videos from a PC on a TV?
There are several ways to connect a laptop to a TV, so you may not find the previous method the most comfortable of all. In fact, we opt especially for the option of installing Plex on both Windows and your Smart TV.
Vers that you find it very easy to install the Plex multimedia center on your computer, or on your NAS device in case you have one, and then install the Plex application for smart TVs.
If your TV is not compatible with Plex, we recommend buying a Fire TV Stick and install it there. You can also install the app on your Android device and duplicate the image using a Chromecast, although we personally prefer the Amazon option.
The great advantage of this method is that you can choose what to watch and use the playback controls from the TV or using the Amazon remote, and not from your computer as in the case of VLC. In addition, screen mirroring in VLC is still in beta.
