It is increasingly common to find smart devices on the market that help us on a day-to-day basis, from smart locks that open when we get home, automatic porters that automatically recognize who is behind the door … But it seems that one of the most successful devices, especially in the United States, are thermostats to regulate the temperature of our home.
Nest was the first, at least the most successful in recent years in this field, hence Google was done with it. But it's not the only option. In the market there are several manufacturers with similar devices but they have not had the significance of this. Microsoft wants to steal prominence from Nest and just presented a smart thermostat managed by Cortana called GLAS.
Unlike other devices, the GLAS, as this thermostat has been baptized integrates Cortana inside, so that we do not have to interact with it through a smartphone or through its touch screen exclusively, but we can also do it through of voice commands. To create this device Microsoft has partnered with Johnson Control, a company that has several such devices in the market.
Inside GLAS we find the operating system for devices of this type, Windows 10 IoT Core, a device that offers us information on air quality, outdoor and indoor temperature, energy consumption… practically the same functions offered by any thermostat of this type, but with the difference that we can manage it using voice commands. At the moment we do not know when it is scheduled to be released and in which countries it will be available, but as we have seen in the presentation video it looks very good.
