These are the price and availability for the mobile that can be managed with remote gestures

Presented at the MWC 2019 with the LG V50 ThinQ 5G, it was one of the flagships that we could test and already at those demo tables I managed to get attention with something: offer a control by air gestures. But it hasn't been until now when the LG G8s ThinQ arrives in Spain for distribution, finally knowing its price.

It is a mobile with high-end hardware to compete in this sector, maintaining a familiar design and providing this and other news thanks to the integration of a sensor Time of Flight (which they have called camera Z), having two front cameras. Although we were able to analyze it and we tell you in detail how is the experience with it, we take advantage of its arrival in this market to review its characteristics.

An appearance that sounds to us and a great notch

The high-end LG phones have been in the notch for a short time and for now they are still betting on it. In this case we see a remarkable notch which integrates, in addition to the front camera, the ToF sensor and a secondary speaker for stereo sound, in addition to some other sensor.

TOF 3D cameras: how it works and why the latest great innovation of photographic smartphones is so attractive

In this way, we have a screen of 6.21 inch G-OLED surrounded by a frame with chin and this notch, which has an FHD + resolution of 2,248 x 1,080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18.7: 9.

Composed of metal and glass, the back has that characteristic glossy finish with the triple rear camera module protruding slightly. On the edges, in addition to the usual buttons, a fourth physical button for the voice assistant and the 3.5 mm jack, next to USB Type-C.

Fast, wireless and maximum load on Android processors

As we say, being a top of the range could not integrate another Qualcomm processor that was not the Snapdragon 855, in this case accompanied by 6 GB of RAM being the only option. For storage it has 128 GB, although it can be expanded up to 2 TB via microSD.

All this powered by a battery of 3,550 milliamps / hour, with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging and wireless charging. It also has DTS-X 3D sound with up to 7.1 channels, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and can act as a WiFi repeater.

The "pentacamera" to have a mobile that looks and does not touch (sometimes)

There are five total cameras with which this mobile account taking into account the rear and front. It maintains one of the most popular formulas that we are seeing in high range and also in average, the wide angle and telephoto combination with a standard lens, but adding a second camera on the front, leaving as follows:

  • Camera main rear: 12 megapixel sensor (1.4 m pixels) and aperture lens f / 1.8 and 78 degrees.
  • Secondary rear camera with wide angle sper lens 136 degrees and f / 2.4 aperture, with a 13 megapixel sensor (1 m pixels).
  • Secondary rear camera with telephoto lens 47.7 degrees and f / 2.6 aperture, with a 12 megapixel sensor (1 m pixels).
  • Double front camera: standard 8 megapixel sensor (1.12 m pixels) with f / 1.9 aperture lens and ToF sensor with f / 1.4 aperture lens (14 m pixels).

This sensor, as we say, allows applications beyond the photo to be able to detect the hand and activate Air motion, the function that allows you to open some apps and control some function with air gestures. The mobile detects the presence of our hand and with a certain movement we can access for example YouTube or adjust the playback volume.

In addition, with the already traditional methods of fingerprint blocking and facial recognition, this allows us to add a third way to unlock the terminal: the palm of the hand. With all this it manages to differentiate itself from other rivals and the LG V50 ThinQ, although the latter also supports 5G unlike the G8s.

Price and availability of the LG G8s ThinQ

The LG G8s ThinQ reaches the Spanish market with a recommended price of 699 euros, having commented on a single model in terms of memories. The available color is black, attaching headphones in the pack.

As the company explained, that "s" in the name corresponds to the name "Smart Green", which is due to the reforestation project in the Alto Tajo Natural Park (Guadalajara) that LG has carried out, analyzing and mapping the areas to be reforested with its three rear cameras. 1.5 million trees have been reforested.
